How to File a Roof Insurance Claim in South Carolina (Step-by-Step)
After a Carolina hailstorm, the difference between a paid claim and a denied one usually comes down to four things — and most homeowners get one of them wrong.
Step 1: Document damage before you call anyone
Take ground-level photos of your roof, gutters, downspouts, AC fins, mailbox, and any vehicles outside. Hail leaves matching impact marks on soft metal — that's evidence the storm hit your property. Don't climb the roof yourself; we'll do that in your free inspection.
Step 2: Get a roofing inspection FIRST, then call insurance
If you call your insurance company before knowing whether damage exists, you've opened a claim on your record whether or not anything is paid. Schedule a free roofing inspection first. We'll tell you honestly if there's enough damage to file. If there is, we document it for the adjuster.
Step 3: File the claim and meet the adjuster on-site
When the adjuster visits, we meet them on your roof. This is critical — adjusters write what they see, and a roofer pointing out impact marks, slope by slope, leads to a complete scope of damage. Homeowners who let adjusters inspect alone often get partial-payment offers that don't cover a full replacement.
Step 4: Review the scope, supplement what's missing
The first scope of loss frequently misses items: drip edge, ice & water shield, ridge vent, code-required upgrades. We write a supplement with documentation and submit it back. Most carriers approve supplements when properly supported.
What you'll pay
You pay your deductible only. Insurance pays the rest at replacement-cost value (assuming you carry RCV coverage, which most SC policies do). Beware contractors offering to 'waive your deductible' — it's insurance fraud in South Carolina and can void your claim.
